I was born and raised in the Lowveld; a beautiful area in the North East of South Africa which is surrounded by granite outcrops and savanna bushveld.
After matriculating I relocated to Cape Town to study architecture at the University of Cape Town. While studying I developed a keen interest in the vernacular architecture of the Cape Winelands (and wine :). During this time I also enjoyed exploring different forms of art and creativity.
Upon completing a M.Arch. (Prof.) degree in 2012, I pursued my dream to work in the historical built environment of the Cape Winelands. Over the course of five years I worked for two established architecture firms. The scope of my projects ranged from historical restorations and refurbishments to modern wine cellar alterations.
Throughout my architecture career I kept making art and developing my own unique style.
In 2017 I married a farmer and relocated to the Hex River Valley; an inspiring landscape where dramatic mountains rise up above the patchwork of table grape vineyards in the valley.
In 2018 I founded a company called Rise and Shine Works. Towards the end of 2020 I re-branded it to my own name. I create my work from a small studio on a working farm, surrounded by beautiful scenery.
I have been fortunate to work on some wonderful commissions and collaborations over the years. My focus is now shifting to more custom ceramic sets and hand painted tile murals. I am excited to see what lies ahead.
Here’s to the journey!
